The VTA was established with the intent of providing for employment. Previously, the Manpower division in the Labor Department which was running technical and vocational training programs in many parts of Sri Lanka has been converted to the newly constitute Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka (VTA), making vocational training more accessible to rural youth and depressed segments of the country

ICT Technician - NVQ4
Hands-on experience with the latest programming languages and technology.
Automobile Mechanic - NVQ3
Inspects, repairs, and maintains cars and other motor vehicles, including engines, brakes, transmissions, and steering systems.
Automobile Electrician - NVQL3
Installs, repairs, and maintains vehicle electrical and electronic systems, including wiring, batteries, lighting, starters, and control units.
Motorcycle Mechanic - NVQL4
Inspects, repairs, and maintains motorcycles, focusing on engines, fuel systems, brakes, suspension, and electrical components.
Three-Wheeler Mechanic - NVQL3
Inspects, repairs, and maintains three-wheeled vehicles, including engines, drivetrains, braking systems, suspension, and basic electrical systems.
Computer Application Assistant - NVQL3
Performs basic computer operations such as data entry, preparing documents and presentations, maintaining databases, and carrying out internet-related activities.
